Music Video with FTO Films and Zeroscale

A few months ago I was involved in a music video with some of my good friends FTO Films and Zeroscale. Zeroscale are a multi discipled design, web and creative sevices company based in London. They are good friends who I grew up with and seem to be able to do just about anything in their industries to a very high standard.

The music video was in a huge old disused barracks in London I went down to shoot behind the scenes and general stills of the band but went early to help with the set build etc. It was great to be surrounded by a load of other young professionals as I nearly allways work on my own or with one or two people to help being a stills photographer.

Please take the time to have a look through the Zeroscale website.

Zeroscale is a West London based Web Design and Creative Media studio that work on projects that span from corporate video, short films and music pro-mos to websites, graphic design and event coverage. We are a young company that pride ourself on our close relationships with all of our clients and our constant pursuit of projects we personally find exciting and engaging.

Here are some behind the scenes photographs documenting the making of this music video.

I also did a timelapse of most of the set build

M Shed Museum

The the £ 27 Million Museum of Bristol’s waterfront has recently opened and I am always keen to keep up with whats happening in Bristol and Keep my images and portfolio up to date so I contacted the Council to ask for permission to take some photographs in the M Shed. Its a great building with some fantastic architecture and will be busy every day for quite a while I would imagine as there is alot to see. It reminds me of going the science exploration centre which used to be next to Temple Meads when I was a child because many of the exhibits are interactive and fun.

Below is a selection of Architecture photographs from the M Shed Museum.

and here are a selection of people and general images from the M Shed.

I have also done one or two quick virtual tours of the main spaces.

Clifton Life Portraits

Has been a really busy few weeks, I have been working nearly every day for a while now which feels really good as April was very quiet. I now have a mountain of post production to do but while I am waiting a backup to finish I thought I would post some nice portraits I did last week for a feature in Clifton Life. The job was to take photographs of local independent businesses around Clifton, Cotham and Redland in Bristol. Clifton Life is a sort of community lifestyle magazine and has a very large readership in many of the good areas of Bristol. The job wasn’t paid but the magazine is very stylish with great copywriting and design so I think the credit and potential of getting a cover is well worth it for marketing purposes.

I had about 14 to do and unfortunately only had 2 days to do it because some other work had come up meaning I had to cut the deadline in half so ran around like a madman for two days working as quickly as possible. I actually really enjoyed the job and it did me alot of good to get to know the community and areas close to my (relatively) new home.

Here are a selection of photographs and if you are based in Bristol then look out for next months Clifton Life.

Interactive 360 product photography

I have been meaning to learn how to do 360 product photography for a while. I got into the idea of interactive photography when I learnt how to do virtual tours a while ago. So I had half a day free today and set up a tabletop studio with a few strobes and played around trying to spin products on the spot keeping them in one place. I think they look allright for a first try and will make a turntable to do them easily and quickly when I have time.

New Food Portfolio Book

I have just finished putting together a Food Photography Portfolio Book. Its quite long but im happy with it as there are many areas of food I have photographed. The book follows the raw ingredients all the way to the plate and shows every step along the way.

Michael Sheen Photographs

Took a few photos with Actor Michael Sheen a month or so ago. He was working with students at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. There was quite a bit of waiting around but eventually I was able to get a few minutes to take photos of the meeting they were having. Im not too sure what the photos are being used for, hopefully the new prospectus but whenever a star as well known as Martin Sheen is visiting its allways worth getting on record for future press/publications.

Severn Bridge Stock

With all the good weather at the moment and with twilight getting later by the day I have had the time to shoot some Severn Bridge photographs. I have shot similar photographs a few years ago but it clouded over so it has been on my to do list for a while now that we have some good visibility.

All images and many other new Spring Stock Photos will be available on my Alamy Account soon

Tesco Riots in Stokes Croft

There was more Rioting in Stokes Croft Bristol last thursday. There was a police helicopter circling a large area and I could see policemen and women changing into riot gear on my road so I decided to go down to have a look with a few friends and my camera.

I have edited these ALOT after numerous warnings from hooded groups worried about online images being used as evidence against them, which is fair enough. I don’t condone the attacks against police however I don’t work for them either. I will put a wider colour edit up on here and Alamy when I have retouched them.

Music Producer Portraits

I shot a few photographs for my friend and music producer Graham last week. I have done photographs for him years ago when we lived together in Newport while at Uni. I am always looking for subjects to try out new ideas and experimental lighting setups on so we went down to a bit of disused railway in Bristol to try to make some sort of edgy urban portraits.

This type of photo are not really my strong point and I have never really been required to do this for any job. Which is why I was keen to do them as a personal project for a bit of fun and to learn something new.

They didnt work out the way I was imagining as I was hoping to do something a bit like US band photographers Joey L, Dave Hill and Joel Grimes (Google them) but seeing as I only had two small lights with a softbox and a few grids I struggled get the right lighting for the look I was hoping to achieve.

I really bugs me when I know I could have done better, however I always find that I learn alot more from my mistakes than I do from nailing it. Next time I try some photos in this style they will hopefully be a bit closer to the desired look……..with more time, another light, better modifiers and some gels.

Spring colours are out

The Bluebells are out and I can remember seeing an amazing image on the Britain on View stock library. As they are only out for a week a did some research and went to find some looking for a very specific picture.

I wanted it to be backlight with long shadows and have a warm dreamy type feel to it and I think I found the right location on the second attempt.
